Just 65,000 square kilometres in size, yet boasting over 10% of the entire Asian Elephant population, the densest population of Leopard in Asia, 496 bird species, 96 reptiles and Blue and Sperm whales off the coast, Sri Lanka may perhaps offer the finest island safari to any island of comparable size.

Blessed with over 10% forest cover and fifteen national parks, this magical island offers the wildlife tourist a unique array of habitats, landscapes and species with a short distance. We visit the islands magical gathering of Elephants at Minneriya, explore Yala National Park, which is famous for its excellent sightings leopards, and also pay a visit to Wilpattu National Park, the largest reserve in the island and one that is famed for its natural fresh water willus (pools), its leopards and all that is wild in Sri Lanka!</p.

The islands Buddhist culture and the multiple religious communities’ host some of the most spectacular cultural events in Asia, and the Kandy Esela Perahera (Elephant Procession) is a shining example that rivals any carnival in Brazil. We make a date with this amazing event while on our Sri Lanka photography tour to witness and photograph 50 dressed up elephants parading the streets of Kandy, along with 2000 dancers paying homage to Lord Buddha’s sacred Tooth Relic carried majestically atop the official Tusker, a tradition that stretches over back over 100 years.
