Suri Tribe Photo Tour: Client Portfolio II
ORYX’s “Suri Tribe Photo Tour” will take you to one of the wildest corners of Ethiopia – Kibish in the Omo Valley. This is a cultural photo tour during which we will interact with, and photograph the Suri Tribe community. Sadly, development and the ravages of modernization are threatening this unique tribe, and as such visiting the people of the Surma area is unfortunately a “see it while you can” photo adventure.
Curious to see what our ORYX guests capture in this portion of the Omo Valley? Below we’ve put together a few more behind the scenes and client images that will make you want to add Ethiopia to one’s growing photography bucket list!
“This Ethiopia photo tour was amazing, as were Kirsten, Bray and the drivers. They anticipated issues before they arose and kept everyone safe. A special mention also for September our cook at the camp. She somehow managed to produce the best food of the trip from her makeshift kitchen. Clearly a lot of thought and organization went into making the entire photography tour run so smoothly, not an easy task in Ethiopia I’m sure!
Kirsten is not only a very talented photographer but also a calm and generous teacher who taught me a lot. His passion for photography was infectious and I particularly appreciated the considerable time he spent helping me with processing in Photoshop. His relaxed manner and sense of humour put everyone at ease enabling a group of disparate participants to quickly become firm friends.” – David Longstaff
“I had a wonderful time with Dale on our Suri Tribe photo tour. He has a great personality and really worked hard to help us get good images. He clearly cares about client satisfaction, demonstrated great patience and did everything in his power to make everyone comfortable.
All in all, he was a great leader — and coupled with the top notch service of your ground team, it was an enjoyable experience overall. The camp setting was also done very well — we felt like they really took great care of us and kept us safe, while not jeopardizing an authentic experience.” – Eva Ho
“It is difficult to describe our time on our Suri Tribe photo tour and has taken me weeks to digest it all!
It was fun, fascinating, educational, and at times a little emotionally challenging (at least for me!). Kirsten, Bray and the entire crew at the ORYX camp took such wonderful care of us! Kirsten was a wealth of knowledge photographically and Bray was able to answer all of my questions – and there were many!
The food that September cooked for us was delicious. Hot coffee and cold water was available at every turn. Abe took great care preparing our tents and our showers and making sure the camp ran smoothly.
I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to such a remote area of the word and to learn about and photograph the Surma people. I’m thankful to ORYX and the entire team for organizing such a wonderful Ethiopia photography tour.” – Yasmeen Strang
