Botswana – Mababe Photo Tour 2026
Spaces Available
4 October – 9 October 2026
The Mababe Depression is where the Mababe River (formerly the Khwai River) fans out across an expansive plain, creating a vital wetland that sustains an abundance of wildlife residing in the surrounding dry grasslands and woodlands. Covering over 50,000 hectares, the Mababe Depression is nestled between two of Botswana’s iconic wilderness areas, namely the Okavango Delta and the famous Moremi Game Reserve, and Chobe National Park.
What makes Mababe unique is the continuous flow of water into the 2,600-hectare marsh at its southern edge, drawing wildlife from far and wide in search of its life-giving waters. Surrounding the “marsh” are vast grasslands, dotted with tall termite mounds, and which are home to a wealth of herbivores and have gained fame in recent years for hosting some of Africa’s largest herds of Cape Buffalo during the dry months at the end of the austral winter. These massive herds, in turn, are stalked by hungry lions, providing visitors with front-row seats to exhilarating predator-prey interactions. Your camp, Mokete, is well positioned to access the marsh and grasslands, and in the dry months, guests often witness multiple buffalo hunts per day! The legendary Mababe is becoming recognised as offering world-class predator-prey interactions, and photographic opportunities are superb!
