Why this Photo Safari is for You

Destination Allure

With the disappearance of the herds as the annual Wildebeest migration comes to an end, the Mara's predators tend to increase their activity in search of their next meal. The short rains begin around this season and with us travelling at the start of it, the grass should be short and lush, the afternoon skies become dramatic and dominated by thunderstorms with the light turning magical. Colours like greens start take over the usual winter browns, creating wonderful photographic visuals to enhance your portfolio! Elephant, dazzling Zebras, Eland, Masai Giraffe and Topi are other alluring subjects in addition to the key photographic species ie Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Spotted Hyena and Serval.

Best Of The Mara North

Joining a small group tour filled with other creative guests is motivating and empowering as you learn about your camera while experiencing an exotic location with like-minded individuals.

Freedom to Explore

While we will be departing on game drives timed to utilise the best light for photography, we have the freedom to spend as long as we want out on game drive should a sighting of interest be underway.

Private Conservancies

We will be staying and photographing in the Mara North and Olare Motorgori conservancies, which are private areas where only resident guests are afforded access. Off-road driving is allowed, and presents us with greater opportunities to get the photographic angles we desire!

Guided Experience

Local knowledge of the region and its inhabitants is key to crafting the ultimate photography tour experience. Combined with the photographic expertise of your ORYX Photo Tour Leader Penny Robartes, and you are in for an adventure that will further fuel your excitement for photography and the destination.

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi and transfer to accommodation

Today is an arrival day in the Kenyan capital for the start of our African photo safari. Penny will meet the group at our hotel for dinner where she will discuss the upcoming tour in more detail.
2

Day 2: Scheduled flight from Wilson to Mara North Conservancy, Masai Mara

This morning after breakfast, we will be transferred to Wilson Airport, where after we catch a scheduled flight to the Mara North Conservancy Airstrip. Upon arrival at the airstrip, our driver guides will meet us and then we will drive slowly to camp in the form of a game drive. After check-in and lunch, we will depart on afternoon game drive on our Kenya photography tour. Our camp is specifically chosen for its superb location. Overlooking the spectacular Mara River, it is surrounded by natural beauty, and the environs nearby have wonderful big game numbers.

Days 3 an 4: Mara North Conservancy

For the following 2 days on our Kenya photo safari our daily activities will begin as we leave camp in search of the wildlife. We will strike out by vehicle as we look out for photographic opportunities, utilizing the best light where possible. The Mara North Conservancy offers off-road driving, and this is the perfect scenario for wildlife photographers as we can drive directly to the sightings that are of interest to us! We may spend full days out in the field during our Kenya photography tour, the benefits of which include not having to return to camp for meals (on such days, we would have a delicious selection of food packed onto the vehicle) and this enables us to explore some of the areas further away from camp and otherwise inaccessible on half-day forays. Our wonderful ground team is however very flexible to our needs, and depending on weather conditions, we may have the day broken up into morning and afternoon game drives. Should we return to camp for down time, Penny will be conducting Lightroom editing sessions.

Day 5: Game drive transfer to Olare Motorgori Conservancy, Masai Mara

After breakfast, our photo safari continues as we game drive to our next camp, which is situated in the Olare Motorgori Conservancy. With an astounding volume and variety of wildlife, the conservancy offers some of East Africa’s finest, year-round wildlife viewing. This is one of the richest ecosystems in the Africa and consists of 35,000 acres of rolling grassland, hills, escarpment and the Motorogi plains to explore.

Days 6 & 7: Olare Motorgori Conservancy

As with our stay in the Mara North Conservancy, the next 2-days on our Women-only Kenya photography tour will be broken up into morning and afternoon game drives with the possibility of spending full-days out on game drive. Like the Mara North Conservancy, Olare Motorgori Conservancy offers the freedom of off-road driving, which suits us well since if conditions allow, we will be able to pursue sightings of interest away from the road network.
6

Day 8: Scheduled flight from Olare Motorgori to Wilson

After our final morning photo safari game drive and breakfast, we will depart the Olare Motorgori Conservancy for Wilson Airport in Nairobi. From here we will transfer to the Karen District for a delicious lunch. This is sadly where this safari with us comes to an end, and concludes our “Women on Safari” journey! Here we will say our good-byes as you are either transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure flight, or to your hotel accommodation.
