When you get to travel to an area that rivals the Omo Valley in photographic opportunities, you know you’ve got a special trip at your disposal!

Lake Turkana is untouched and authentic. A hidden gem that offers a unique visit to a discreet oasis with a special atmosphere of tranquillity and a halcyon spirit. Found on the World Heritage list, it’s located in Kenya’s Rift Valley Province and the tribes residing on its shores form part of the Nilotic tribes that constitutes as the second largest pastoralist community in Kenya after the Maasais.

They are a colourful tribe when it comes to regalia and dressing, and coupled with a unique environment of lake shores, sandy dunes and herds of camels and donkeys, the ability to create exclusive images of these people in this remote part of the world is what makes this Kenya photography tour very special.

Join ORYX to this little-visited part of Kenya for a distinct cultural photography tour and uncover its photographic treasures.

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi and transfer to accommodation

Today is an arrival day for your Kenya photography tour, where you will be met by an ORYX representative who will then transfer you to your accommodations for the evening.

Day 2: Scheduled flight from Wilson to Lodwar, Road Transfer to Lake Turkana

From Nairobi, we will be transferred to Wilson Airport, where after we catch a scheduled flight to Lodwar, the largest town in north-west Kenya. Thereafter, we have a road transfer to camp, where our photo safari commences.

Days 3 to 8: Lake Turkana and Surrounds

Please note that we do not have a fixed schedule for the next few days on our photography tour. Instead, your guide will assess daily which area is the best to photograph according to your particular photographic requirements. Adeptly integrated into this milieu are the eight-en suite safari-genre tents, with spring water showers, flushing toilets and wash basins that lie nestled within the extensive palm grove. Each tent has a unique remarkable varied view of the sandy beach, the lake, Central Island and the distant shoreline.   A form of forest and spring are to be found around the camp, and behind the camp lies a cliff which makes for a great backdrop, and sundowner spot as well! Our camp is a nexus for journeys on and around Lake Turkana, and we will strike out from camp in an effort to get the best cultural photographic opportunities of the Turkana people.

Day 9: Road transfer Lobolo to Lodwar, Scheduled Flight back to Nairobi and Depart for Final Destination of Choice

An early transfer this morning (approximately 2 hours) we will head back to Lodwar before flying back to Nairobi, where this incredible Lake Turkana Photo Safari, sadly comes to an end.

Everything went very smoothly and Kirsten was wonderful, not only as a photographer but also how he cared for the welfare of the clients. The catering was more than adequate and the service was very attentive. The accommodation was excellent under the circumstances and I have no suggestions on how to improve. Overall a most excellent experience!

Hi Nicolette, how lovely to hear from you with such a warm welcome back! The Lake Turkana photo tour exceeded expectations and has provided some great memories. Kirsten is a more than capable leader and his photographic skills are simply outstanding. We will certainly be booking another trip!

Kenya – Lake TurkanaMartin Bauer, Austria

Well, what can I say about this fantastic photo tour? Firstly, the planning from ORYX’s was tops and secondly, the efforts from Kirsten while on the tour was super tops! The camp, and especially the food, was unbelievable given its remote location. The area and shooting sessions were great!

I have been on a few photo tours in the past but ORYX took the concept to another level. I joined because of the photographic opportunities but also because I was so well taken care of from the first email I sent. A BIG thank you! I am a very happy client who is now tempted to explore more with ORYX!

The tour has been so amaziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing and stunning. Marius did such a great job. The whole tour was perfectly organized and prepared. I cannot complain about anything, not even a small thing. I am looking forward for the next tour with ORYX. Thank you again and all the best!

Kenya – Lake TurkanaShyam Thilagaratnam, Singapore

It was an absolutely surreal trip (Marius, I know you’ve heard me say this several times, like a broken record) – but it truly was perfect. Everything just fell into place, not least because of all your planning and Peter’s amazing skills. The photography was epic, the company good fun, and Marius leading the group nothing short of brilliant. Whatever we dreamt of, we got – camels, donkeys, goats…sunsets, sunrises, clouds…couldn’t ask for anything more.
