Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi and transfer to accommodation

Today is an arrival day in the Kenyan capital for the start of our African photo safari. Penny will meet you at the hotel for dinner where she will discuss the upcoming tour with you and the rest of the group.

Day 2: Scheduled flight from Wilson to Masai Mara National Reserve

This morning we will be transferred to Wilson Airport, where after we catch a scheduled flight to the Musiara Airstrip located in the Masai Mara National Reserve. Upon arrival at the airstrip, our guides will collect us and take us on our first photo safari game drive as we slowly make our way to the camp. After check-in and lunch, we will depart on our long awaited first afternoon game drive on our Kenya photography tour. Our camp is specifically chosen for its superb location. Besides the natural beauty that surrounds it, such as overlooking the spectacular Mara River, this area also offers a high concentration of wildlife activity including Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Hyena and more.

Day 3: Masai Mara National Reserve

Our time spent in the Masai Mara National Reserve on our Kenya photography tour will be broken up into morning and afternoon game drives, and potentially night-drives for star photography opportunities. We will be departing on game drives timed to utilise the best lighting situations to photograph under. Our siesta time in camp can be used to relax and soak up the environment from your accommodation or from the very comfortable lounge area. Penny will be conducting Lightroom editing sessions which you are welcome to join. As we have reserved the camp exclusively, we have complete freedom and flexibility as each new day arrives. This benefit that our Kenya photography tour offers means that we do not have to return to camp for scheduled meal-times. Should we be at a photographic sighting, waiting for a Cheetah to hunt, or even driving back to camp from a far distance; there is no rush to leave the sightings. Your photographic guide will teach you creative techniques to best capture the wildlife that we photograph, how to explore and capture your photographic vision, edit your images to bring the best out of them, and more.

Day 4: Road transfer to Mara North Conservancy, Masai Mara

After breakfast, our photo safari continues as we road transfer to the Mara North Conservancy, Masai Mara. Such as with our camp in the Reserve, our new accommodations is found on another bend of the banks of the Mara River.  Ranging from secret knots of woodland to wide open plains, to caches of rocks and boulders, to flat expanses of vastness, edged by sharp inclines of escarpment, the Mara North Conservancy leaves nothing to be desired.  This variation in landscape provides ample opportunities to capture the diversity that makes this ecosystem so desirable to its wildlife. Upon arrival at camp, we will have some time to settle in, charge camera batteries and download images before our afternoon excursion.

Days 5 and 6: Mara North Conservancy, Masai Mara

Today our photographic activities will be broken up into morning and afternoon game drives with time spent at camp during the harsh midday light. The Mara North Conservancy is exclusive and private, which means that only guests and lodges/camps that are based in this area are able to traverse it. The Mara North Conservancy is an intimate and exclusive conservancy that offers the sheer freedom of off-road driving as well as afternoon game drives that can go well into the night. This powerful combination is the perfect scenario for wildlife photographers as we can drive directly to the sightings that interest you! Our siesta time in camp can be used to relax and soak up the environment from your accommodation or from the very comfortable lounge area. Penny will be conducting Lightroom editing sessions which you are welcome to join. Your photographic guide will teach you creative techniques to best capture the wildlife that we photograph, explore star and night-time photography, how to explore and capture your photographic vision, edit your images to bring the best out of them, and more.

Day 7: Scheduled flight from Mara North Conservancy to Wilson

After our final morning photo safari game drive and breakfast, we will sadly depart the Mara North Conservancy for Wilson Airport in Nairobi. We will stop for lunch at one of the beautiful restaurants en-route to Jomo Kenyata International Airport where we will say good-bye and board our international flights.
Kenya – Life of PredatorsDebra Thoms, Australia

Fabulous trip, well organised, with great accommodations and locales. We saw numerous mammals & birds with the help of our skilled local guides, who were also very well informed & helpful. Our tour leader and photographer Penny Robartes was excellent – I learned a lot from Penny about photography and took some of the best photos I have ever taken. All in all, this was an excellent trip and will certainly look to undertake further trips with ORYX!

Kenya – Life of PredatorsKeith McLeod, Canada

I have had a fantastic trip!! The time with Penny and the group based out of Nkorombo in the park was excellent. Penny’s blend of skills of leadership, organizing, people, and photography coaching all came together to make the trip a rewarding learning experience for all.

Now a few thousand photos to distill down, and I am optimistic that there are a few diamonds to be found in there.

And also starting to look at future trips, with Oryx, Penny, and various Serian camps all being part of the recommended mix.

The trip was beyond expectations. The staff was excellent and careful and they accommodated everyone's food issues. The drivers and guides were very savvy about photography. They positioned the jeep at each stop to take advantage of the light and the movement of the animal we were photographing. They were willing to stop for birds even though birds were not the focus of the trip. I am really looking forward to another ORYX trip. Penny was so excellent. I would travel with her again in a heartbeat.
