Many of Madagascar’s creatures are known for their strange appearances and adaptations, and true to this “endemic-style” that the island sometimes known as the “laboratory of evolution” is known for, our photo target will be one of its rarest creatures, the Aye-Aye. Our visit will offer the opportunity to capture the world’s largest nocturnal primate and also yield chances to photograph quirky lemurs and kaleidoscopic frogs, snakes, chameleons and geckos which make the area their home.

Why this Photo Tour is for You

Destination Allure

This extension will focus on one of Madagascar’s most bizarre residents and the world’s largest nocturnal primate, the Aye-Aye.

Month of Travel

Our Photo Tour takes place in early summer as arriving rains increase bird and “herp” activity and many of the lemurs have small, adorable offspring!

Number of Species

Besides the Aye-Aye, which our main photo target, the forest is also home to other lemur species including the Indri, Black-and-White Ruffed and Red-bellied lemurs. Colourful frogs, snakes, chameleons and geckos can also be found here.

Day 1: Road transfer from Perinet to Ankanin’ny Nofy

This morning after breakfast we drive from Perinet to Ankanin’ny Nofy (approximately 3-hour drive). Around dusk, we depart on an outing to photograph the local Aye Aye’s.

Day 2: Ankanin’ny Nofy – Morning, afternoon and evening excursions

This mini paradise protects a variety of flora and fauna, with lemurs being quite habituated – perfect photographic delights! Other than our main target, the forest is also home to 9 other lemur species, including the Indri and Black- and-White Ruffed lemurs and much like Perinet, also boasts colourful frogs, snakes, chameleons and geckos. We also have access to an area that has a good population of orchids (they usually bloom October/November) and carnivorous pitcher plants. Activities today include walks to photograph the area’s quirky wildlife and plants, and in the evening, heading back for a final opportunity to photograph the intriguing Aye-Aye.

Day 3: Road transfer Ankanin’ny Nofy to Antananarivo

This morning we will have an early breakfast and say goodbye to this private reserve, before departing via boat back to our pick-up point. We will then drive back to Tana, stopping for lunch en-route. Once back in Tana, we will have a free afternoon to unwind or edit images until we meet up again at dinner to enjoy one last meal together.

Day 4: Depart Antananarivo

Today our Madagascar photo tour comes to an end as we sadly make our way to the airport and say our goodbyes.
