Although many of Madagascar’s biological treasures live in in the rainforest belt along the eastern and northern edges of the island, some species are better seen elsewhere on “Eighth Continent”. We have arranged for this extension to complement our main tour by visiting the west of Madagascar in order to offer chances for its largest terrestrial mammalian predator, namely the Fosa. Furthermore, we visit the stunning “Avenue of Baobabs”, formed by a collection of arguably Madagascar’s most magnificent baobab, the dramatic Grandidier’s Baobab.

1
Day 1: Antananarivo to Morondava
This morning we transfer to the airport for our flight to Morondava. We pay a visit to the towering Avenue of Baobab trees this afternoon.
2
Day 2: Morondava to Kirindy
Departing Morondava this morning, we make our way to Kirindy Forest Reserve which protects approximately 100 square kilometres of one of Madagascar’s most threatened ecosystems. This reserve is well known for its variety of lemur species such as Verreaux’s Sifaka and Red-fronted Brown Lemur but arguably the most sought-after species in the dry deciduous forest of Kirindy is Madagascar’s largest predator, the Fosa. Kirindy is also home to the nocturnal Giant Jumping Rat, and the world’s smallest primate, the miniscule Madame Berthe’s Mouse Lemur (which tips the scales at around 30g / 1.1oz!)
