The Lofoten Archipelago is a dramatic set of islands that arc off of the Norwegian mainland into the Arctic Sea off northern Norway. They are famous as offering some of the most amazing landscapes anywhere on earth, with vertical fortresses of granite rising steeply out of the ocean, giving rise to the name the “Lofoten Wall”. Our photography tour is timed to take advantage of the Aurora Borealis, the celebrated “Northern Lights”, which represent some of the most dramatic light shows on this planet! Couple the incredible scenery with the potential for sensational colours and textures of the Northern Lights, and you have a landscape photography tour unlike any other. Join us for what promises to be a mind-blowing photographic adventure!

Why this Photo Tour is for You

Destination Allure

A Northern Lights photo tour is a bucket list item for many and Lofoten is regarded as one of the most picturesque places in the world to witness the dancing display of light.

Month of Travel

Our photo tour takes place during the winter season which yields the best time for a display of the Aurora Borealis across the night sky.

Lighting

Other than having the night sky light up, winter is also ideal for photographers as this time of year yields very little harsh daylight, leaving photo seekers with an endless plethora of sunrise and sunset capturing opportunities.

Landscape photography

The contrasting contours of these islands is what makes this destination a dream for landscape photography enthusiast!

Guided experience

Local knowledge of the region and its locations is the key to crafting the ultimate photography tour experience. With a local Norwegian team conducting this tour that intimately know the area, your time in Lofoten will utilised with their guiding expertise.

Day 1: Arrival in Harstad, road transfer to Leknes

We depart Harstad today for our Northern Lights photo tour, driving approximately 4 hours (depending on stops) to the north east through the archipelago to Leknes. This evening (depending on conditions of course) we will kick off our Lofoten photography tour for our first photographic excursion at night.

Days 2 and 6: Lofoten Island surrounds

Over the course of the next five days of our Lofoten photography tour, we will be exploring the less busy areas as we attempt to capture this remarkable area in all its glory. Your local guide and Professional ORYX photographic leader will together use their extensive experience to provide you with the best possible portfolio of images. The area has many hidden treasures, and landscape photographic opportunities are incredible. Instead of focusing on one particular area, we will be driving every day to key locations on our Northern Lights photo tour around the islands for optimal light and scenic backdrops.

Day 7: Travel inland to Northern Norway

On our last full day in Lofoten, we will travel inland to Northern Norway to experience a snowy winter wonderland! A magical fairy tale awaits with snow sprinkled pine trees and although conditions may be colder, wind is scare and hopefully the Aurora Borealis will put on a dancing display for our photographic delight to finish off our Lofoten photography tour in style!

Day 8: Transfer to Harstad and depart

After a final morning, we will make our way back to Harstad and our Aurora Borealis photo tour sadly comes to an end.

Wow! What an amazing trip that one to Lofoten was!

All arrangements were excellent, the itinerary well-chosen and the guides (Roy assisted by Arild Heitmann) excellent. The guys were great company, diligent in persuading us up steep slopes, across icy beaches and into the teeth of ferocious winds to get “that perfect shot” ….and they were never wrong. They took great efforts to assist and instruct, always making great suggestions on how to look for the shot that offered something special and told more of a story than just waves breaking on a beach (for example). I learned so much and had a wonderful time to boot!

So I am now officially an Oryx groupie and photographic addict.

Thanks for the wonderful opportunity!
