NEW TOUR

25 Jul 2020 – 1 Aug 2020

ORYX Photo Tours is proud to present a tour designed to take you to two of South Africa’s top destination whose wildlife sightings and encounters bring visitors from around the world to it; MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, and Ngala Private Game Reserve in the Timbavati Game Reserve.

The Sabi Sands Game Reserve is especially famed for its incredible Leopard sightings which are generally abundant! The leopards are very habituated here and often you can get within meters of them without them being disturbed or concerned about our presence. Nestled in this reserve is a private concession called Malamala Game Reserve, and this is where the first portion of our tour takes place! The Big 5 are found here and set right next to the famed Sand River, MalaMala’s area boasts one of the most dense and best wildlife experiences that can be offered to a photographer and nature enthusiast.

The Timbavati Game Reserve is further north from the Sabi Sands, and is known as a game-rich wilderness. In a large private concession found here is our second stay; Ngala Private Game Reserve. The beauty here is that Ngala does not share traversing rights with any of the surrounding lodges, leaving only Ngala guests to explore its 14,700 hectares (36,500 acres).

The combination of these two phenomenal wildlife areas is sure to leave you with incredible memories, photography learnings, as well as a varied and vast wildlife photography portfolio.

Why this Photo Tour is for You

Destination Allure

The Sabi Sands and Timbavati Game Reserves are sought-after destinations for all wildlife and nature photography enthusiasts. The variety and density of wildlife combined with their habituated manner allows good time spent with and personal photographic explorations with all our subjects.

Month of Travel

Our Photo Tour takes place in July which is one of the best months to photography wildlife. As this month falls under our Winter season, the dense bush is thinned out and water sources become more scarce. This makes wildlife viewing and photography easier and wildlife movements more predictable.

Photographic Subjects

The Timbavati is a unique area where a genetic strain found in the Lions found here has led them to birth cubs which may turn out white. Currently, Ngala's resident pride has two white lion cubs. Home to the Big 5, this area has a treasure at every turn. The Sabi Sands is world-renown for its incredible Big 5 sightings, notably its rosetted-cats, the alluring Leopard! Relaxed and habituated, encounters with these cats are widely and favourably known and sought-after.

Value for Money

This tour takes us to 2 key wildlife destinations in South Africa where we will be staying in luxury accommodation. From arrival on Day 1 to departure on Day 8, all your internal road and flight transfers are included in the tour price!

Day 1: Arrival at OR Tambo International Airport, fly to Skukuza. Game drive to MalaMala Main Camp

Today marks the start of our photo tour as we depart Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport on a flight bound for the Skukuza Airport. From here we will be collected and taken on a game drive to our first leg of the safari; MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Keep your cameras on hand as there is a high potential to see a lot of wildlife! After settling in at the lodge and having a bite to eat, we will begin on our first afternoon game drive.

Days 2 to 3: MalaMala Game Reserve

The next two days will be dedicated to the "beasts" of MalaMala with specific focus on the magnificent Big 5 and of course, the stars of the show; the Leopard. We will utilise the best lighting situations where possible which includes photographing predators at night.   "Siesta" time at camp will be used to download images, charge camera batteries, conduct editing sessions, as well as relax before our afternoon photographic adventure.

Day 4: Morning game drive, flight Skukuza to Ngala Private Game Reserve

After a final morning of photography at MalaMala, we will enjoy breakfast before making our way back to Skukuza Airport for our flight to Ngala Private Game Reserve.   Upon arrival, we will be collected by our guides and taken on a game drive to our accommodations on this private concession. Here, we will have time to settle in and have a bite to eat before departing on our afternoon game drive.   The focus of our time here at Ngala Private Game Reserve is on the Big 5, with the high potential of seeing and photographing the resident pride's white Lion cubs. At the time of this tour's conception and writing, there are 2 white Lion cubs on the Ngala Private Game Reserve property and will be juvenile by 2020.

Days 5 to 7: Ngala Private Game Reserve

The next two days will be dedicated to the "beasts" of Ngala with specific focus on the magnificent Big 5 and of course, the stars of the show; the white Lions. We will utilise the best lighting situations where possible which includes photographing predators at night.   There is a good chance to see and photograph the Apex predator; African Wild Dog, and  the rest of the incredible Big 5 are as relaxed and habituated as the Lions found here.   "Siesta" time at camp will be used to download images, charge camera batteries, conduct editing sessions, as well as relax before our afternoon photographic adventure.

Day 8: Transfer to Hoedspruit Airport, flight to OR International Airport and depart to final destination

Today sadly marks the end of our "Beasts of the Southern Wild Photo Tour 2020".   After our last morning game drive and at a time to be advised, we will be transferred to Hoedspruit Airport for our flight back to OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg. Here, we say our final goodbyes as you leave to your final destination of choice.   *** Please Note: Whilst this tour is focused on the predators, specifically Leopard, Lion, African Wild Dog and the chance to photograph the white Lions at Ngala, sightings can be unpredictable; myself and our guides will however do our utmost best to get you the species and photographs you desire. This specifically applies to the white Lion cubs at Ngala – there are 2 white lion cubs at time of writing.***
