We are proud to present an ORYX Bespoke Luxury Photo Safari handpicked for you by ORYX CEO Marius Coetzee, to one of Africa’s most thrilling wildlife photographic destinations – Tanzania. This 8 -day photographic expedition is tailor-made to visit the nations’ best game reserves while utilizing world-class lodges that have become industry benchmarks in safari elegance and sophistication.

ORYX has chosen Singita properties for the Tanzania portion of your safari because of the expansive space and beauty of the reserves, limited guest and vehicle numbers, extraordinarily consistent game viewing and un-parallel photographic opportunities.

Your safari commences at Singita Faru Faru Lodge, which is situated in the Grumeti portion of the Serengeti ecosystem in an untouched wilderness area spanning over 350,000 acres in northern Tanzania. Unique to other lodges in the region, Singita Faru Faru Lodge snakes unobtrusively along the Grumeti River. The lodge sits right on the pulse of the world-renowned Serengeti wildebeest migration path.

Your next destination is Singita Mara River Tented Camp. Mara River Camp is the epitome of sustainable tourism and consciously seeks to eliminate the unnecessary use of energy and non-biodegradable materials. In keeping with this philosophy, the camp operates “off-the-grid” and relies entirely on a custom designed solar system for its power and the use of recycled and natural materials wherever possible. Inside the camp, bohemian chic sets the tone for cool relaxation, where spun natural fabrics, canvas, stone and raw leather blend with Maasai primary colours and elegant art pieces by young African designers and craftsmen.

The functional East African design encourages guests to embrace the outdoors and connect with nature. The location of Singita Mara River Tented Camp provides excellent opportunities to view the river crossings of the annual wildebeest migration. As the Lamai triangle forms part of the Serengeti Mara ecosystem, you will experience year-round concentrations of plains game, big cats, elephant and enormous populations of crocodile and hippo in the Mara River.

Why this Photo Safari is for You

Destination Allure

The Serengeti’s open plains is synonymous with big cat country, known for its sublime Cheetah sightings, a Lion stretched out on an elevated boulder or a Leopard draped across the branch of a tree.

Tanzania has the largest concentration and diversity of animals in Africa. Covering an incredible 30,000km², the Serengeti ecosystem is one of the world’s largest and most spectacular wildlife areas and boasts over 1,100 bird species on top of that. Despite the vast space, the volume and concentration of game that we can expect to see during our Tanzania photo safari is nothing short of astounding.

Small Group Departures

Travel to wildlife saturated Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater region with a maximum of only 3 individuals for a private photo safari experience.

Day 1: Arrival Arusha

Today is your arrival day in the East African nation of Tanzania, home to the world’s highest free-standing mountain (Kilimanjaro), and arguably the most iconic game reserve on earth – Serengeti National Park. After your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by an ORYX representative and driven west to your wonderful accommodations for the night located on the outskirts of Arusha (the safari capital of northern Tanzania). Here your tour leader and ORYX photographic guide Marius Coetzee will meet you, and tonight you will be able to discuss your upcoming adventure in detail!

Day 2: Charter flight from Arusha to Grumeti, Serengeti-Mara Ecosystem

After breakfast and at a time to be advised we will depart from Arusha to Grumeti by air (approximately a 1hour). Our aircraft will land at the Singita Sasakwa airstrip and after a 40-minute road transfer we will arrive at the fabulous Singita Faru Faru Lodge. Faru Faru Lodge is set in northern Tanzania, forming part of the Serengeti Mara ecosystem. Built on a gently sloping hill, this riverine lodge, positioned on the renowned migratory route, is a place where you can quite literally expect the unexpected.

Days 3 and 4: Grumeti, Serengeti-Mara Ecosystem

ORYX has chosen Singita properties for this ‘Mega’ Photo Safari because of the expansive space and beauty of the reserves, limited guest and vehicle numbers, extraordinarily consistent game viewing and un-parallel photographic opportunities. Singita Grumeti, situated adjacent to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, is an integral part of the Serengeti-Mara Ecosystem. The reserve was proclaimed by the Tanzanian government in 1994 in order to protect the path of the wildebeest migration in addition to the biodiversity of this vast and important part of the ecosystem. In 2002, the Singita Grumeti Fund, a not-for-profit organization, was granted the right to manage and conserve these 350,000 acres for the benefit of Tanzania, Africa and the world. Hidden away on the edge of the Grumeti River, Singita Faru Faru Lodge was inspired by a botanist’s camp, blending cutting edge design with organic shapes and textures. The lodge has the carefree ambience of a Zanzibari coastal resort. This will be your home for the next 7 days, where you will explore and photograph the untouched wilderness area of the Singita Grumeti Reserve in your dedicated safari vehicle. As we venture out into the wilds of Grumeti in the mornings first light, we are likely to spot a great variety of wildlife, including cheetah, bearded wildebeest, Bat Eared fox, Maasai giraffe, lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and the rare Colobus monkey. Early morning game drives in this spectacular reserve provide the perfect opportunity to photograph Africa’s incredible wildlife, while evening drives reveal the elusive magic of nocturnal Africa.

Day 5: Charter flight from Grumeti Reserve to Lamai, Serengeti-Mara Ecosystem

After our final morning safari and breakfast, we fly to the far north of the Serengeti. Post landing at Serengeti Lamai airstrip, we will enjoy a 45-minute game drive to our new camp. Singita Mara River Tented Camp offers guests the chance to spend time in this stunning yet remote area, with one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the Serengeti National Park. With endless views of the Mara River, and with the camp built to have a minimal impact on the environment, it provides guests with an intense closeness to nature.

Days 6 and 7: Serengeti National Park

Singita Mara River Tented Camp is located on the northern banks of the world-renowned Mara River in the Lamai triangle. Lamai, an area celebrated for its annual wildebeest migration crossings, covers 98,000 acres of the northern-most tip of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, slotted between the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya in the north and the Mara River in the south. This area boasts one of the highest year-round concentrations of wildlife in the Serengeti National Park, thanks to its distinctive soil composition. This includes resident plains game, big cats and Elephant, in addition to enormous populations of Crocodile and Hippo in the Mara River.

Day 8: Charter flight Lamai to Kigali via. Kisumu

This morning after breakfast and check out you will depart Tanzania from Lamai airstrip and charter fly to Kigali, Rwanda via Kisumu (to clear passport control and customs).

Penny Robartes was an a brilliant guide for me, always putting my shooting needs first, making sure that my settings were right, giving advice on how to shoot at a sighting and calming me down when a sighting became intense…no easy feat as there were plenty of those! Thank you for your support and advice, not only on safari, but afterwards as well, and giving me a new outlook on Lightroom!

The Serian camps were wonderful, I loved every minute that we spent there, accommodation, food, staff were great, I look forward to returning one day.

Thank you again for a wonderful photo safari, I will always treasure those memories. It was an incredibly special place and the whole experience was wonderful. Its hard to explain to people how beautiful it was with all the yellow and purple flowers and then it became the scene of utter carnage as well!

Tanzania – Ngorongoro & SerengetiGavin & Jayne Erasmus, United Kingdom

We had a fantastic photo tour with Greg, amazing locations and many unique photo opportunities, great lodgings too, all went smoothly from start to finish. Greg picked a great time to visit the Crater and the Serengeti it was as if we had them to ourselves. Crater Lodge Tree camp has an amazing position , whilst the rooms are somewhat quirky, we were well looked after and enjoyed good food and hospitality definitely in the best position to get down into the crater early. Namiri Plains was just perfect for us, a little more down to earth with the tented camp , nice and remote, well run, good food, a most memorable place.

Greg did himself proud, we look forward to our next photo safari with him, need to start saving up! We appreciate your help in arranging the trip.
