The Okavango Delta is a labyrinth of waterways, floodplains, and islands that sustains one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of wildlife. On this photographic safari, you will explore two of its most predator-rich corners: the Selinda Reserve, home to Okavango Explorers Camp, and the northern Duba concession, where Duba Explorers Camp lies tucked beneath ancient trees. Together, these wilderness areas create a journey into the heart of big game country, where dramatic predator-prey encounters play out daily against a backdrop of spectacular landscapes.
At Okavango Explorers Camp, set along the southern reaches of the Selinda Spillway, the mosaic of river channels, open grasslands, and riparian forests provides ideal terrain for predators. Lions, leopards, and packs of wild dogs hunt here frequently, drawn by large herds of buffalo, giraffe, and zebra. The reserve’s 130,000 hectares are also home to elephants in abundance and rarer antelope like roan and sable. Guests explore in custom-designed photographic vehicles or, seasonally, by canoe, ensuring varied perspectives for capturing action both on land and water. This is a landscape known for its intensity, where each day promises close-up encounters and golden-hour photography of predators in motion.
From Selinda, the adventure continues to Duba Explorers Camp in the far north of the Delta, where permanent channels and seasonal floodplains create a shifting wilderness. As waters rise and fall, vast herds of wildebeest, tsessebe, and red lechwe follow the grasses, closely shadowed by lions and leopards. Packs of wild dogs also thrive here, and the camp’s private traversing area allows unrivaled opportunities to follow hunts across floodplains bathed in the soft light of dawn or dusk. Exploration ranges from tranquil mokoro excursions and guided walks to day and night drives, often extending into the darkness in search of nocturnal predators.
With its combination of Selinda’s vast predator country and Duba’s floodplain drama, this journey offers some of the most thrilling wildlife action in all of Botswana. For photographers, the diversity of settings — from open plains to papyrus-lined channels — provides endless opportunities to frame predators at their most dynamic, whether stalking, hunting, or interacting with their prey. This is the Okavango Delta at its rawest and most exhilarating, delivering front-row seats to the drama of Africa’s great predators.

Okavango Explorers Camp – Selinda Reserve
Set on the southern reaches of the famed Selinda Spillway, Okavango Explorers Camp lies at the meeting point of two iconic ecosystems: the upper Okavango Delta and the wild, game-rich Selinda Reserve. Spanning an impressive 130,000 hectares, Selinda is a haven for predators and elephants, handpicked by Great Plains for its unrivaled concentration of wildlife and pristine wilderness.
This is true big game country. The permanent waters of the Spillway sustain vast herds of buffalo, giraffe, and zebra, while attracting predators such as lion, leopard, and African wild dog, which hunt here regularly. Guests often encounter elephants in large numbers, and rarer species like roan, sable, and eland are also seen. The diversity of habitats — from floodplains and riparian forests to papyrus-lined channels — supports rich birdlife, offering excellent opportunities for photography from first light through the golden hour of dusk.
Purpose-built for explorers and photographers alike, the camp provides custom-designed open vehicles with fold-down windscreens, raised roofs, and stabilizing bars — ensuring guests are in the best position to capture dramatic predator-prey encounters. Game drives, guided walks, and seasonal canoeing along the Spillway offer varied perspectives, immersing you in one of northern Botswana’s most celebrated predator landscapes. For those seeking thrilling wildlife action, Okavango Explorers Camp delivers in abundance.
